Obtain your Ultralight Pilot Licence (ULM)

The Ultralight Pilot Licence (ULM) is your gateway to an agile, accessible, and exciting way of flying. It allows you to operate ultralight aircraft for recreational purposes, always in non-commercial operations.

With this licence, you can enjoy the freedom of flight in a simple and direct way, gain pilot experience, and discover the pleasure of low-level flying with a strong connection to the surrounding environment. It is the ideal starting point for entering aviation and, if you wish, progressing later towards other pilot licences.

Course description

Whether you wish to fly for leisure or are taking your first steps into the world of aviation, the Ultralight Pilot Course (ULM) in Moià is an excellent gateway.

This is an agile and accessible training programme that allows you to build a solid foundation in flying in a practical and hands-on way, enjoying the experience of flight from the very beginning in a privileged environment. With the ULM licence, you will be able to operate ultralight aircraft and discover a more direct, flexible form of aviation, closely connected to the landscape.

It is also an ideal option for those seeking a strong introduction before progressing to other licences, such as the PPL(A), or simply for those who want to fly for pleasure with a lower investment of time and cost.

Flying in Moià adds special value to the training, as its natural surroundings and flying conditions make each lesson a unique experience.

The ULM course can be the beginning of a lifelong passion or the first step towards a broader journey within the aviation world.

Structure

The course consists of a Theoretical Training Phase and a Flight Training Phase, the contents of which are detailed below. Successful completion of the Theoretical Training examinations is required before candidates may present themselves for the Flight Training assessment.

The Theoretical Training Phase consists of the following subjects:

  • Air Law
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Flight Performance and Planning
  • Navigation
  • Operational Procedures
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Meteorology
  • Communications
  • Principles of Flight

The practical training course consists of a minimum of 15 hours of flight instruction, including 3 hours of solo flight, during which a minimum of 20 take-offs and 20 landings must be completed, as well as a 1-hour cross country flight during which a landing must be performed at an airfield different from the departure aerodrome. Flight training will be conducted using the Aeroprakt A22L2 aircraft. The flight instruction time specified above represents the minimum requirement established by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA).

Duration

The course duration is approximately 2 months, and it allows students to combine the Theoretical Training Phase with the Flight Training Phase. However, the total time required to obtain the licence depends on the time available and the number of examination sessions needed to pass the different subject exams and the flight test. As a result, the overall duration typically ranges between 3 and 6 months.

Applicants for this licence must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16 years; if the applicant is a minor, authorisation from the person holding parental responsibility or legal guardianship is required, duly certified by a notary.
  • Hold a valid LAPL Aeromedical Certificate.
